This place is fantastic and I absolutely recommend it to everyone who has a chance to stop by the Newberry Square plaza. The decor inside is so charming and lovely, with tons of pirate-themed trinkets decorating every wall. If you have kids, they will love the little shelf in the corner with picture books and toys! The food is INCREDIBLE! The menu features lots of dishes that you can’t get anywhere else in Gainesville, like Kazakh borsch, Ukrainian pirogies, Siberian pelmeni, Polish and German sausages, Turkish pakhlava, Baltic sardines sandwiches, as well as shawarma and an AMAZING honey cake! The hummus is phenomenal and both tastes great and is also plated beautifully. The service is also great; small family-owned business and everyone is so friendly, warm and welcoming. We were a group of 4 and one of the owners told us that she was impressed with our appetites! We went around lunchtime (1PM) on a Sunday and did not have to wait to get seated and the wait time for the food was also not bad at all. Can confirm that the Kazakh borsch, beef/chicken shawarma, hummus and honey cake are all delicious. We also tried their blackberry lemonade and mango aloe vera drinks!

Sunday lunch was great! Nika, the co-owner was very attentive. Enjoyed exploring the memorabilia. Dari served us and was very courteous and helpful. Food was freshly prepared and delicious. Truly a hidden gem 💎 and highly recommended.

Took me back to my grandmother's old world cooking. I'm obsessed. Order everything! Laid back , no rush, service. No one hustling tables here. Handmade pieroges!!! This is real food crafted with skill and care. It's a tiny place with a big heart. Love it.

This place is small, food is fresh, authentic, and so yummy! We didnt take photos of everything but everything was good. The decor is very entertaining. Please go support them. It makes me so happy to have access to such a beautiful offering. If the small dining room isnt your style order take out. And please leave a good tip they are under priced!!

This was our first time at Pirate's Grill and will definitely return! We had the chicken shawarma and beef shawarma with honey cake for dessert. We also tried their black currant tea. All of it was delicious! The restaurant is very small with 4 tables but I never saw anyone wait to be seated. The room is also very visually appealing with lots of interesting items on display. The staff were also very friendly and helpful throughout our meal.

Amazing homemade hummus....had the gyro which was delicious. A bit over the top with decor, but don't let that deter you from trying this gem!

We were in town from Jacksonville for a soccer tournament and always like to try mideastern and mediterranean cuisine in different cities. This place was hands down the best chicken shish kebab and rice I have eaten. The food was fresh and so full of flavor that I would be willing to drive 1.5 hours to eat it again! The restaurant is small and full of lively art and collectibles which makes it feel quirky ans full of character. It is extremely clean ans our server was attentive and very helpful. Highly recommend!!!!

I usually don’t give 5 stars because nothing in this world is perfect, but this place and the staff deserve this! The atmosphere and coziness of the restaurant was so inviting it felt like a family where all are welcome and the main requirement is to enjoy the food and your time. Sadly, I didn’t get the servers name but did have a conversation with her and found out she’s from Georgia 🇬🇪 (the country) and has roots and family in Poland 🇵🇱. As for the food, it was fresh made so it took a little longer to come out, but it was well worth it. Everything was delicious, nice and hot, and so filling it made my soul happy. This place is a hidden gem in decor, friendliness, food, and warmth. More American restaurants need to take note. If you’re in Gainesville or passing through, make time to stop by and get some of the best food you can have in the area. Highly recommended!!!
